Somebody Knows How to Fix This…

In this post, I share how a groundbreaking healing approach called the Bone Bruise Techniqueᵀᴹ — part of Integrative Manual Therapyᵀᴹ (IMT) — has helped accelerate recovery from injuries, ease pain, and restore optimal performance for runners, athletes, and anyone wanting to move and feel their best.

Years ago, my teacher — the late Sharon Giammatteo, PT, PhD — wasn’t satisfied with the usual answers.

She was seeing bone fractures and bone bruises and didn’t accept the standard “6 to 8 weeks of rest” as the only way to heal. Sharon was one of those rare people who transcended what most think is possible.

In the late 1990s, she discovered a way to actually fix what she called “bone fractures.” Her colleague, Frank Lowen, told her, “You can’t say that!”

So she smiled and said, “Okay, we’ll call it the Bone Bruise Techniqueᵀᴹ.”

I learned this technique in the early 2000s. It took multiple Integrative Manual Therapyᵀᴹ (IMT) classes — Cranial 3, MET 3, and more — just to qualify for it.

And while it looks like nothing is happening when you do it, the results are often profound.

A few years ago, my son broke his collarbone in a zip line accident. Instead of 8 weeks in a sling, we used the Bone Bruise Techniqueᵀᴹ — several times a day — along with a few other IMT bone techniques.

Within two weeks, he was back to full motion and strength. No pain. No stiffness. Just back to being a kid again.

Since then, I’ve used this same approach to help runners and others recover faster, move better, and perform at their best.

Just the other day, I worked on him again after a long running workout. I treated one side of his body first and had him get up and test it — because in IMT, we always test and retest.

He stood up, stretched, and said, “Dad… the soreness on that side is completely gone.” Then we did the other side, and afterward, he just smiled and said, “I feel amazing.”

That’s what I love about this work — finding the right technique for the right problem at the right time.

That’s how we optimize healing and performance — for runners, athletes, and anyone who wants to feel great in their body again.
