What the research tells us about CRPS?

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is a chronic pain condition typically affecting a limb after an injury. It is characterized by severe, persistent pain that is disproportionate to the initial injury. The pain is often accompanied by changes in skin color, temperature, and swelling in the affected area. CRPS is classified into two types:

  1. CRPS-I (formerly known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy) : Occurs without a confirmed nerve injury.
  2. CRPS-II (formerly known as Causalgia) : Occurs with an identifiable nerve injury.

Basically traditional and even alternative healing methods do not offer much hope of a cure.

With Integrative Physical Therapy we view the person’s body as self intelligent and self healing and when we see something that is not healing, we look for the root cause.

The key here is the body is doing everything for a very good reason. So why would a body cause severe debilitating pain? And why wouldn’t the body heal it?

There is a phenomenon in Integrative Physical Therapy called “Hierarchy of Protection” which states that the body will protect vital structures at a “high cost”.

In this way of thinking we have the “rule of the artery” meaning that the body will protect an artery and the heart at a very high cost. It will spasm muscles, cause joints to lock down, cause all sorts of protections in order to not hurt an artery or a heart.

This is why when I had an 8 month calf problem and couldn’t run more than 5 minutes without calf cramping nothing was working to fix it. Until I found this way of healing, Integrative Physical Therapy also called IMT Integrative Manual Therapy.

The problem was my aorta. The big artery around my heart. It wasn’t a medical condition meaning the doctors did not see anything “wrong” with the heart or artery. I looked healthy and on many levels I was healthy.

But here’s the deal. I had a calf that kept cramping stopping me from running. I had severe anxiety for my whole life up to that point (age 37) and I had a crazy sweaty hands and feet problem that limited my social life. I also had cavities that required continuous dental treatments.

When I found and healed the root causes which for me were artery and heart issues.,

Leaky Vessel Syndrome, I was able to run. Calf spasms gone within 2 days.

And over specific treatments over the next few months I no longer had anxiety or sweaty hands and feet. And amazingly, I no longer had cavities showing up every 6 months at my dental visits.

So what about Complex Regional Pain Syndrome?

I had a client years ago with severe ankle and foot pains and her foot and ankle “gave way” 3 or 4 times a day causing her to fall each day.

What we found was a deep mental/emotional anguish from a car accident decades earlier where she almost lost her foot and had some surgeries that did not go well.

Her body was protecting her from this inner pain. It made it so she wouldn’t let anyone touch her foot or ankle. So I didn’t. Instead we did the very specific technique to release this inner anguish or pain.

After that single hour long session I could touch her foot and from that moment on her foot and ankle never popped out again. No more falls from her ankle problem.

So the key is what is your body protecting you from. We can find it and then you can heal and get your health and life back.
