Why Work With Ralph Havens PT?

I’ve been a runner for over 40 years and a physical therapist for decades.

Over the years I’ve worked with runners, active people, and clients dealing with chronic and recurring injuries that often haven’t responded to traditional approaches.

I’ve invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in advanced training, including Integrative Manual Therapy, Strain Counterstrain, Myofascial Mapping, Helix Biomechanics, and other methods designed to uncover the deeper causes of pain and movement restrictions.

I also host free runner clinics here in Fairhaven and am passionate about helping runners stay healthy, perform better, and enjoy the sport for life.

My goal is simple: Help you get back to running—and back to life.

What Runners Are Saying

“I feel a lot looser. I feel like I want to run fast. It feels lighter on my feet. My feet feel more alive, more catalyzed. I felt really good. I wanted to run further and faster. Really looking forward to seeing the impact of it.”

— Joel Gilman, Runner

Why Running Injuries Keep Returning

Many runners are told they simply need more stretching, more strengthening, different shoes, or more rest.

While these approaches can sometimes help, many recurring injuries continue because the underlying cause has never been identified.

The painful area is often not the true source of the problem.

Restrictions elsewhere in the body can alter movement patterns and create compensations that eventually overload tissues such as the Achilles tendon, plantar fascia, knee, hip, or hamstrings.

Our work focuses on finding and addressing those hidden restrictions so the body can move and function more efficiently.

Watch: Finding The Hidden Cause Of Running Injuries

Many running injuries are driven by hidden restrictions elsewhere in the body. This video demonstrates how looking beyond the painful area can often reveal important clues.

Our Approach

  • Integrative Manual Therapy
  • Strain Counterstrain
  • Myofascial Mapping
  • Helix Biomechanics
  • Movement Analysis
  • Running Injury Assessment
  • Whole Body Evaluation

Instead of chasing symptoms, we focus on finding and addressing the deeper causes that may be limiting healing, performance, and recovery.

Common Running Injuries We Help

Achilles Tendon Pain

Achilles tendon pain often involves much more than the tendon itself. Restrictions in the foot, calf, pelvis, and movement patterns throughout the body can contribute to excessive stress on the Achilles.

Plantar Fasciitis

Persistent heel pain can be frustrating and limiting. We evaluate foot mechanics, lower-leg mobility, pelvic alignment, and whole-body movement patterns that may contribute to ongoing strain.

Runner’s Knee

Knee pain frequently reflects movement issues above and below the knee. Improving mobility and biomechanics often leads to improved comfort and performance.

Hip Pain

Hip pain can affect stride length, efficiency, and enjoyment of running. We look at the pelvis, spine, core, and lower extremity to identify contributing factors.

IT Band Syndrome

IT band symptoms are frequently linked to underlying restrictions and compensation patterns.

Hamstring Injuries

Recurring hamstring injuries often involve more than strength deficits. Pelvic mechanics, mobility, and movement efficiency can all play important roles.

Runner Success Story

“I had a Helix Biomechanics session with Ralph and it was a very comfortable experience. I had been dealing with a hip and groin issue for a long time that was restricting my running form. Since the treatment I have noticed that I am moving more efficiently and have been mostly pain-free. Right after the session I felt immediately more open in the hip area. It has really made a difference in my running form.”
