There are a lot of former runners that I know. Some that I’ve met in daily life and others I’ve met as clients of mine. Many people have told me “oh, I used to run, but…” and the “but” usually has to do with an injury or injuries that kept someone unable to run. Many times it was an injury that came up over and over again each time they tried to run. So they gave up. I like to ask them if they would like to run again. Many times they don’t really believe they can return to running. And again, it’s due to having had injuries in the past that kept them from running over and over again.
Now, it’s not up to me to make someone run again of course or to even help them get their desire to run back. But I feel if someone is able to get healthy enough so that they could run, then that is a good thing. Whether or not they even try to run again is not important to me but if they do want to return to running, it is great when they are healthy enough to do just that. Many people have given up thinking it is possible due to getting hit with the same injuries each time they tried in the past. But, I’ve found that by finding and helping the client fix up the things they are protecting, the body heals; I’ve seen it over and over again. And when it heals, even returning to running is possible.
I’ve had runners return to running, once they were told to give it up and that it was no longer possible. I’m including a letter from a client who sent me a letter many years ago of his experience; I’ve had others as well. So if you are a runner with injuries or a “former runner” who has given up but still has a glimmer of hope; or at least would like to see how healthy you can become and leave open the possibility of a return to running, check out the heart of running link and watch our videos on youtube.
I love to run and running is a great part of my life. As a healthy person, I feel we should be able to run if we want to run. Let me know how your running is going and what you’d like; your heart’s desires.
my best to you,
